I have seen and spoken to people who changed salt and had major problems with their tank.  If they were all the same then the cheapest one would win, but that is not the case.

I am NOT trying to scare you Chris!  I have not heard of any real issues with Seachem.  But again, you have how much invested in this tank?  I would be cautious and do smaller more frequent changes for a while.  Hoss is right that a 5% change probable won't make a difference.

I also agree that you should pick a salt and stick with it.  I have been keeping tanks for 10 years and only just recently switched from IO to RC.  Which is really not much of a switch.  I did it as the two are very similar, but my club is doing regular powerbuys on the RC that makes it cheaper.

Use what you have, keep some mixed and do more smaller changes.  Figure out what you want to use long term and stick with it.  Oh yea... don't buy salt from someplace 7 hours away again!!!!!

ive changed salts several times and never saw a problem, i think if its done slow and small amount replaced there shouldnt be an issue, mind you all the salts i changed from and to were similar in parameters so there wasnt much of a difference.

hey steve the new IO is vertually identical to existing Reef Crystals now, in fact you may have been better off sticking with IO, some of the posts from the big guns and chemists i see suggest its at optimum reef levels now, apparently its going to be a decent salt where not much dosing is required, unlike the old IO, which had poor levels

Just thought i would post with the brand salt i use and its readings. i did change salts once because the brand i started with there was only 1 LFS that carried it and they went out of business. I now use Red Sea Coral Pro mixed at 1.023 SG 450 ppm calcium 2.2 - 2.5 alk

BTW i never saw any ill effects from the change in salts

As I stated originally I have used the same salt since I started and I think when I start my nano Im going to try out the new Brightwells salt. Im still using Coral Pro in my reef. This is one of my favorite threads on MRK because from the looks of it alot of us use differant salts and all have nice tanks. Good to see we dont have one that sticks out as bad.
What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss

I use, and have used Seachem Reef salt for around 2 years.  I have never had an issue with it.  The odd low mag reading now and again which is
easily rectified by adding some mag chloride to my fresh.
The best adivce for using this salt, and probably with most salts, is to give the actual bucket a good 'kick' around the house prior to using in order to
it a good mix up before adding it to your RO.

I had to switch to another brand (Red Sea Coral Pro) on one occasion as my lfs didn't have any of SCRS in at the time.  My tank didn't like it all.

I fully agree with one of the previous comments made about sticking with a salt that is good for you, although I do know people that swap and change
depending on what they can get hold of/price at the time.
