Pregnant seahorse
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:21:50 AM »
My male horse is carrying eggs.  I saw them dancing about two weeks ago didnt think much about it.  Then my male blew up like a balloon and I thought Oh no here I go again I will have to release some air.
Well i went to release some air and out popped 2 eggs i was horrified.  I let the lil thing go and back down to the sand he went.
Everything I read states they can carry the babies for several weeks so we are getting prepared, do I really think I am going to be able to keep and raise them?  I dont know but I am going to try like heck.  I was making my 75 gallon into a seahorse tank just for the 3 I have but now will wait until this is over.  My room mate is securing the tank with sponge and netting etc...  My Mom is on board she said while we are at work she will come and feed every two hours.  lol
If I suceed I will share with local reefing buddies if you do want them.  I love them but yes they are difficult to keep indeed.  Must have a chiller on the tank is what I have in my experience found out.  I did lose one of my first ones to a disease I tried to save him but I didnt suceed and my heart was so broken.   My second cousin named him Long Nose!  He is only 7 yrs old so he was proud of that. lol
Well wish me luck.
Have a wonderful day and a better tomorrow.

Seahorses are for sure a chore, but one thats enjoyable if you have the time. Thats awesome that you are willing to try and raise them!!! Kudos, keep us updated for sure.
What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss

Well my male seahorse died.  :(  I guess having babies wasnt for him.

Now the other male is pregnant and doing okay.  Just lazy while the female swims around happy.
Have a wonderful day and a better tomorrow.
