thats a stinker of a question, ive had both and both have merits, blue is lovely, but black gives the tank depth, id say blue though, if you keep the tank clear of algae on the glass then blue looks cleaner

How about blue at the top and turning into black at the bottom.  Not a straight line to change colors but like the sky when it changes colors.

I have actually heard and read (cant remember where) that you should NOT paint the back of you tank because it will reduce your PAR...  If I can find that article I will post it up.

Here's one thread on the subject.  What I've always done is slip in a piece of black chloroplast behind the glass instead of painting the tank.

i personally like black. the only way i could see it affecting PAR is it doesnt reflect much light.

I prefer blue on my tank, I've had both. If your tank is glass, I recommend a background rather than paint though. It's much easier to remove and some of them go on like window tinting, very easy installation IMO.

Mine is black, but there are even those backgrounds that go from black on the bottom to blue toward the top that are pretty cool too.

totally agree, we can get a blue one side black the other background over here sold by the meter which is just over 3ft and its just a buck or so per meter, i use sticky tape to stick it to the glass and its easily removed, so simple even i can do it ;D
