50/50 you may get lucky you may not, I personally would leave it until you know for absolute certain its gone.  If it dies off completely it should just leave behind a bleached skeleton with no real ill effects to the tank, so IMPO I would just leave it.

I agree, I would use a baster gently to keep the coral clean and not remove it until algae grows on it.

It won't hurt anything, but the white color will encourage algae growth eventually. Does there appear to be any flesh on the SPS?
