Safest for an anemone.
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:34:45 AM »
One time we tried an anemone, and it only lasted about a week. After it moving all over the tank trying to find a good spot, we woke one morning and it was sucked into a power head.
I would love to get another, but we are afraid of the same thing happening again.
Any advise to the safest way to keep one, and maybe some hints as to not having another suck into the power head?

Mature tanks are the best for these finicky little things.  Have you checked out Karen's site for advice?  www.karensroseanenomes.com (or something like that).  I'm going to wait a little bit longer before I try my hand at another one.  Good luck to you, Mel!

Sponges on everything! Thats the best advice I could have ever been given, I had the same thing happen. Also as jimw369 will tell you as he told me they do not have brains. So you have to think for them and take every little precaution to protect them. They are 90%+ water and can fit through an opening the size of a pencil eraser. Good luck with your next one, you are deffinately not alone in the "curiosity killed the nem" dilema
What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss

You can always do like I did, screen off all the openings, stick him in there and pray.  Mine has made it through his first 3 weeks, his predecessor became a meal for some damned demon shrimp.  This one so far is alive and happy, we'll see.  I said since the other one was eaten I'd give it one more shot, and if this one doesn't survive I'm gonna wait until the upgrade is done.

Yes those bastids ate my nem some zoos and started eating a hammer coral.  I had to pull all the rock and retrieve the SOBs.

Tell me about it, 2 shrimp and a ton of headache.  So word to the wise and a note to self, don't put peppermint skrimps in with your anemones boys and girls.
